4711 Original Eau de Cologne, one of the oldest brands, with a name recognized throughout the world, is considered by many to be «the mother of all eaux de cologne».

On 8 October 1792 a Carthusian monk gave the young entrepreneur Wilhelm Muelhens a unique wedding present: the secret formula for an «aqua mirabilis», a wonder water for internal and external use. From the very outset, Wilhelm Muelhens believed in the success of this extraordinary formula and opened a small manufactory in Cologne’s Glockengasse shortly afterwards.

In 1810, Napoleon decreed that all secret formulas for internal use were to be made public. In order to prevent the disclosure of the secret formula, Wilhelm Muelhens presented his «Kölnisch Wasser» as for external use only. The healing qualities of 4711 Original Eau de Cologne were no longer promoted and instead it was marketed with great success as a perfume.

A pioneering fragrance, fresh and light with a curious history that, beyond connecting the generations, has crossed the centuries

The application of this unique composition has a positive effect on the mind, body and soul. The secret formula of 4711 Original Eau de Cologne is still appreciated across the globe to this day and makes the «aqua mirabilis» an absolute classic without comparison.

Continuing to create scents inspired by the body, emotions, and senses, 4711 launched the ACQUA COLONIA range, a collection of scents with selected natural ingredients that contain mood-enhancing properties.
